Tsetse Fly
A savanna speedster that never leaves a crumb behind.
Uncommon bugs unlock with XP you earn playing online, or with coins. The game shows how to get each one.
Passive: Big Gulp
Corpse and boost pellets are worth +30% and reached from 20% further.
A passive is always on: you never fire it and it never runs out. It is what the Tsetse Fly does that no other bug does quite the same way.
Stats
Stats are multipliers on the standard bug, which is ×1.00 in everything (the game shows them as percentages: ×1.14 is 114%). Turn is Agility in the game. For Boost drain, lower is cheaper.
| Stat | Tsetse Fly | Compared with the standard bug |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | ×1.12 | 12% faster |
| Turn | ×1.08 | turns 8% faster |
| Bulk | ×0.92 | 8% thinner |
| Growth | ×1.04 | 4% more from food |
| Boost | ×1.10 | boosts 10% faster |
| Boost drain | ×0.95 | boosting costs 5% less |
| Spawn mass | 18 | the standard |
Power-ups
Every bug has 5 power-up slots. The Tsetse Fly can carry 7 of the game's 18 power-ups: the 5 core ones every bug carries, and 2 more that its traits from the real animal allow. Its traits are flier, fast and bloodsucker.
Hyperdash
Instantly teleport 420u forward; for 0.4s only the wall can kill you.
From its fast and flier traits.
Sap Siphon
For 5s every enemy head within 140u loses 3% of its mass per second, and 70% of it flows into you.
From its bloodsucker trait.
Core power-ups: Nitro Wings, Molt Husks, Phase Shift, Pheromone Call, Shockwave.
How bots play it
Bots fill every seat no player is using. A bot playing the Tsetse Fly plays it as a Skittish. Jumpy: the widest berth around bodies, the earliest flight and quick evasive boosts; it fires defensive power-ups early.
Other skittish bugs: Grasshopper, Mosquito, Monarch Butterfly, Cockroach, Firefly, Luna Moth.
Skins
The Tsetse Fly has 6 skins. A skin changes only how it looks, never how it plays. See them in the full skin gallery.
Savanna Tsetse
Sun-baked gold with dark amber bands, like tall grass on the African savanna.
Smoky Tsetse
Smoke-grey with charcoal bands and bright red eyes, misty wings folded on its back.
Zebra Tsetse
Bold black-and-white stripes, borrowed from the zebras it follows across the plains.
Rust Tsetse
Rusty red-brown with dark bands and peachy wings, the colour of red savanna soil.
Emerald Tsetse
A jewel-green fly with golden rings, minty wings and bright orange-red eyes.
Slime Tsetse
Oozing bright slime green with gooey dark bands and lime-tinted wings.
The real animal
The Tsetse Fly in buggs.io is based on Glossina morsitans, and its traits come from what the real animal does. Read about it on Wikipedia.
