Mosquito
Tiny, quick and always buzzing. Every little sip adds up.
Common bugs are free to play. The game shows how to get each one.
Passive: Long Sipper
+15% bite reach, its straw-like nose sips food from further away.
A passive is always on: you never fire it and it never runs out. It is what the Mosquito does that no other bug does quite the same way.
Stats
Stats are multipliers on the standard bug, which is ×1.00 in everything (the game shows them as percentages: ×1.14 is 114%). Turn is Agility in the game. For Boost drain, lower is cheaper.
| Stat | Mosquito | Compared with the standard bug |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | ×1.10 | 10% faster |
| Turn | ×1.16 | turns 16% faster |
| Bulk | ×0.86 | 14% thinner |
| Growth | ×0.98 | 2% less from food |
| Boost | ×1.06 | boosts 6% faster |
| Boost drain | ×0.92 | boosting costs 8% less |
| Spawn mass | 16 | smaller than the standard 18 |
Power-ups
Every bug has 5 power-up slots. The Mosquito can carry 8 of the game's 18 power-ups: the 5 core ones every bug carries, and 3 more that its traits from the real animal allow. Its traits are flier, tiny, fast, bloodsucker and swarm.
Hyperdash
Instantly teleport 420u forward; for 0.4s only the wall can kill you.
From its fast and flier traits.
Colony Split
Spawns 2 allied bugs that hunt and forage for you for 20s, funnelling food back to your mass.
From its swarm trait.
Sap Siphon
For 5s every enemy head within 140u loses 3% of its mass per second, and 70% of it flows into you.
From its bloodsucker trait.
Core power-ups: Nitro Wings, Molt Husks, Phase Shift, Pheromone Call, Shockwave.
How bots play it
Bots fill every seat no player is using. A bot playing the Mosquito plays it as a Skittish. Jumpy: the widest berth around bodies, the earliest flight and quick evasive boosts; it fires defensive power-ups early.
Other skittish bugs: Grasshopper, Monarch Butterfly, Tsetse Fly, Cockroach, Firefly, Luna Moth.
Skins
The Mosquito has 6 skins. A skin changes only how it looks, never how it plays. See them in the full skin gallery.
Elephant Mosquito
After the elephant mosquito, a gentle giant that never bites: teal metallic scales with golden bands.
Marsh Mosquito
A khaki marsh mosquito with soft brown bands, made for hiding among the reeds.
Ginger Mosquito
A ginger-orange mosquito striped in pale cream, as warm as a summer evening.
Dusk Mosquito
Twilight purple with lilac bands and a peach-orange face, out at the very end of the day.
Sapphire Mosquito
After the sapphire Sabethes of the rainforest: shimmering royal-blue scales with golden diamonds.
Vampire Mosquito
A little vampire in a crimson-and-black cape, with red eyes and a pale face. Bleh, bleh!
The real animal
The Mosquito in buggs.io is based on Aedes albopictus, and its traits come from what the real animal does. Read about it on Wikipedia.
