Millipede
Armoured, unhurried, and a real pain to shove.
Uncommon bugs unlock with XP you earn playing online, or with coins. The game shows how to get each one.
Passive: Segmented Plate
35% knockback resistance and 25% shorter stuns.
A passive is always on: you never fire it and it never runs out. It is what the Millipede does that no other bug does quite the same way.
Stats
Stats are multipliers on the standard bug, which is ×1.00 in everything (the game shows them as percentages: ×1.14 is 114%). Turn is Agility in the game. For Boost drain, lower is cheaper.
| Stat | Millipede | Compared with the standard bug |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | ×0.90 | 10% slower |
| Turn | ×0.95 | turns 5% slower |
| Bulk | ×1.24 | 24% thicker |
| Growth | ×1.08 | 8% more from food |
| Boost | ×0.95 | boosts 5% slower |
| Boost drain | ×0.90 | boosting costs 10% less |
| Spawn mass | 24 | bigger than the standard 18 |
Power-ups
Every bug has 5 power-up slots. The Millipede can carry 9 of the game's 18 power-ups: the 5 core ones every bug carries, and 4 more that its traits from the real animal allow. Its traits are colony, ground, armored and grub.
Burrow
Go underground for 5s: untargetable, invisible to bots, 40% slower, cannot eat.
From its ground and grub traits.
Barbed Carapace
Body swells up to 30% and grows barbs: enemies that hit your body are repelled and stunned instead of dying.
From its armored trait.
Colony Split
Spawns 2 allied bugs that hunt and forage for you for 20s, funnelling food back to your mass.
From its colony trait.
Nectar Bloom
For 10s every mouthful is worth double and you regenerate 6 mass per second.
From its grub trait.
Core power-ups: Nitro Wings, Molt Husks, Phase Shift, Pheromone Call, Shockwave.
How bots play it
Bots fill every seat no player is using. A bot playing the Millipede plays it as a Grazer. Food first: senses food further off, reads a closing head from further away and bolts early; it almost never hunts.
Other grazer bugs: Caterpillar, Ladybird Beetle, Cicada, Mole Cricket.
Skins
The Millipede has 6 skins. A skin changes only how it looks, never how it plays. See them in the full skin gallery.
Cobalt Millipede
Deep cobalt-blue segments on amber legs.
Rust Millipede
Rust-red segments on tan legs.
Pink Dragon Millipede
Shocking-pink plates and legs, after Desmoxytes purpurosea, the pink dragon millipede of Thailand.
Yellow-Banded Millipede
Sunflower-yellow segments with black seams and scarlet legs, after the Caribbean yellow-banded millipede (Anadenobolus monilicornis).
Sequoia Lantern
Deep teal armour with a luminous aqua bead on every plate, after the bioluminescent Motyxia millipedes of the Sierra Nevada.
Trick-or-Treat Millipede
Trick or treat! Pumpkin orange sprinkled with witch-purple candy dots, with purple legs from end to end.
The real animal
The Millipede in buggs.io is based on Diplopoda sp., and its traits come from what the real animal does. Read about it on Wikipedia.
