Dung Beetle
Rolls the arena into a ball and pushes it home.
Uncommon bugs unlock with XP you earn playing online, or with coins. The game shows how to get each one.
Passive: Composter
Corpse pellets are worth +35% and give +25% bite radius on them.
A passive is always on: you never fire it and it never runs out. It is what the Dung Beetle does that no other bug does quite the same way.
Stats
Stats are multipliers on the standard bug, which is ×1.00 in everything (the game shows them as percentages: ×1.14 is 114%). Turn is Agility in the game. For Boost drain, lower is cheaper.

|---|---|---|
| Speed | ×0.92 | 8% slower |
| Turn | ×0.80 | turns 20% slower |
| Bulk | ×1.28 | 28% thicker |
| Growth | ×1.20 | 20% more from food |
| Boost | ×0.95 | boosts 5% slower |
| Boost drain | ×0.85 | boosting costs 15% less |
| Spawn mass | 26 | bigger than the standard 18 |
Power-ups
Every bug has 5 power-up slots. The Dung Beetle can carry 8 of the game's 18 power-ups: the 5 core ones every bug carries, and 3 more that its traits from the real animal allow. Its traits are armored, ground, digger and giant.
Burrow
Go underground for 5s: untargetable, invisible to bots, 40% slower, cannot eat.
From its digger and ground traits.
Barbed Carapace
Body swells up to 30% and grows barbs: enemies that hit your body are repelled and stunned instead of dying.
From its armored and giant traits.
Nectar Bloom
For 10s every mouthful is worth double and you regenerate 6 mass per second.
From its giant trait.
Core power-ups: Nitro Wings, Molt Husks, Phase Shift, Pheromone Call, Shockwave.
How bots play it
Bots fill every seat no player is using. A bot playing the Dung Beetle plays it as a Tank. Big-bug confidence: shrugs off heads that scare others, passes bodies closer and is slow to boost.
Other tank bugs: Bumblebee, Rhinoceros Beetle, Elephant Beetle, Titan Beetle.
Skins
The Dung Beetle has 6 skins. A skin changes only how it looks, never how it plays. See them in the full skin gallery.
Scarab Dung Beetle
A deep sea-blue shell with teal highlights, after the blue-glazed scarabs of Egyptian amulets.
Sand Dung Beetle
A sandy beige shell on dusty brown legs, made for the dunes.
Amethyst Dung Beetle
A metallic violet giant of South American forests, gleaming like a polished gemstone as it rolls.
Garnet Dung Beetle
Deep garnet-red armour with gold-flecked eyes, after the fiery scarabs of the Americas.
Pharaoh Dung Beetle
The sacred scarab of the god-kings: burnished gold inlaid with lapis-lazuli diamonds, on lapis-blue legs.
Mummy Scarab
Wrapped head to toe in dusty bandages, with two green eyes peeking out from an ancient tomb.
The real animal
The Dung Beetle in buggs.io is based on Scarabaeus sacer, and its traits come from what the real animal does. Read about it on Wikipedia.
