Dragonfly
Four wings, zero patience. The fastest cruiser in the air.
Rare bugs unlock with XP you earn playing online, or with coins. The game shows how to get each one.
Passive: Aerialist
+16% top speed, the most of any bug, and +8% turn rate.
A passive is always on: you never fire it and it never runs out. It is what the Dragonfly does that no other bug does quite the same way.
Stats
Stats are multipliers on the standard bug, which is ×1.00 in everything (the game shows them as percentages: ×1.14 is 114%). Turn is Agility in the game. For Boost drain, lower is cheaper.
| Stat | Dragonfly | Compared with the standard bug |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | ×1.16 | 16% faster |
| Turn | ×1.08 | turns 8% faster |
| Bulk | ×0.92 | 8% thinner |
| Growth | ×1.00 | the standard |
| Boost | ×1.15 | boosts 15% faster |
| Boost drain | ×1.10 | boosting costs 10% more |
| Spawn mass | 18 | the standard |
Power-ups
Every bug has 5 power-up slots. The Dragonfly can carry 7 of the game's 18 power-ups: the 5 core ones every bug carries, and 2 more that its traits from the real animal allow. Its traits are flier, fast and predator.
Venom Trail
For 8s you leave lingering venom clouds behind you that squish any head entering them.
From its predator trait.
Hyperdash
Instantly teleport 420u forward; for 0.4s only the wall can kill you.
From its fast and flier traits.
Core power-ups: Nitro Wings, Molt Husks, Phase Shift, Pheromone Call, Shockwave.
How bots play it
Bots fill every seat no player is using. A bot playing the Dragonfly plays it as a Hunter. Roams for prey: chases bugs up to ~57 % of its mass from further off and boosts to cut them off well ahead.
Other hunter bugs: Centipede, Stag Beetle, Wolf Spider, Tarantula Hawk, Asian Giant Hornet.
Skins
The Dragonfly has 7 skins. A skin changes only how it looks, never how it plays. See them in the full skin gallery.
Neon Dragonfly
Electric wings for night flights: a neon-green needle ringed in black under pale mint wings.
Ruby Dragonfly
A ruby-red needle ringed in dark garnet under blush-pink wings.
Golden-ringed Dragonfly
Britain's longest dragonfly: a charcoal abdomen ringed in bright yellow, yellow wing spots and amber-washed wings.
Whitetail Dragonfly
A chalk-white abdomen banded in dark brown, with smoky wings and dark wing spots, after the common whitetail skimmer.
Empress Dragonfly
Royal violet from wingtip to tail, gold-leaf wings and a chain of gold diamonds down the abdomen.
Tinsel Dragonfly
A gold-tinsel needle on holly-red wings, trimmed like a Christmas ornament.
Batwing Dragonfly
Purple bat wings over a pumpkin-orange body banded in midnight black, flitting out at dusk.
The real animal
The Dragonfly in buggs.io is based on Anax junius, and its traits come from what the real animal does. Read about it on Wikipedia.
